ROPED (1992)

What distinguished this one was the concept of an electric A-side and an acoustic B-side, a conceit he borrowed from Neil Young;'s Rust Never Sleeps but didn't really stick to very religiously. Not every song on here is about divorce. Beautiful Joe was inspired by the children's book of the same title about an abused dog adopted by a boy. Laughing Stock was openly borrowing the title of a favorite Talk Talk album. Weatherland owes a lot to the writings of Thomas Wolfe (You Can't Go Home Again).
